Adam Ricci Earns First Career Championship
The 2006 season was a banner year for Ricci Motorsports competing on Thursday Thunder at the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Adam in his final year of racing eligibilty captured this seasons championship. It is Ricci Motorsports 2nd championship, Tony won the 2001 title.
Throughout the season Adam continously put the #4 machine at the front of the field. In the 9 races run this summer Adam padded his stats by adding 4 wins, 3 second place finishes, 1 third place and a fifth place finish. His ability on the track was shown in the final race of the year.
Adam only had to start the race to capture the championship. Many thought or questioned if he would just ride around and take a good finish and be this years champion. Adam on the other hand showed right off in the race that he was a racer, and that a racer never lays over. They only want to go forward.
At the drop of the green flag an early wreck happened in the middle on the 1 and 2 turns. The cars got realigned and set up for the restart. When the green flag dropped this time Adam was on the go. Going in to the 1 turn he set the car in to the third groove. Over the next couple of laps he was on the outside of a 3 wide battle and at one point up over the front stretch lip on the outside of a 4 wide race in to the 1 turn.
After starting in the 18th position within 6 to 7 laps he had the lead. Which was contested for the remainder of the race by the #13 of Shawn Emery. Emery started on the inside of Adam in 17th and quickly made his way to the front also.
At this point Emery and Adam were running a blistering pace. It wasn't long before they were putting cars laps down. At one point Emery made the move to the outside of Adam pinching him in behind a lap car. The lap car pushed up in to Emery's lane giving Adam a clear lane to race. The finish was Adam with the win and Emery coming in second. Both drivers put on one of the best races of the year.
PASS 400 Open Show
September 21, 2006 - Ricci Motorsports entered the #4 Mad Bomber in to the Pullen Heavy Industries 400 weekend open show for the midweek racers. The event designed to have the top drivers from Oxford and Beech Ridge's midweek shows pitted against each other. Adam fresh off of his championship season was one of the favorites for the Beech Ridge cars in the event.
Practice showed that the #4 was as fast as ever, just the rules allowed for the Oxford cars put Adam slightly behind on the stopwatch. Adam's laid back personality shined through it all saying "they have to be there at the end to win."
However, those words would comeback to haunt him. Just after crossing the start finish line to complete lap one in the heat race Adam was tagged in the right rear by a spinning car. Adam shot sideways back up the track and collided with the #112. Coming to the pits the crew worked feverishly to get the car salvagable but most of the damage was in the steering. And without enough time to fix it before the consi, Ricci Motorsports loaded the #4 back on the trailer and called it a night.
